Los Angeles. 1983. A storm is coming and its name is cocaine. Snowfall is FX’s one-hour drama set against the infancy of the crack cocaine epidemic and its ultimate radical impact on the culture as we know it.

I had a unique opportunity to contribute to the creative process of the show’s launch campaign. The idea was to develop a spot revolving around Nancy Reagan’s anti-drug campaign slogan: “Just Say No.” It resonated with me, and I decided to put Nancy’s speech on an old TV, which would allow the viewers to easily understand the premise and identify the era depicted in the show. I developed the concept further by selecting the dialogue lines and music and produced a 30-second rough cut. Using Mocha and After Effects to track the pilot episode footage of an old TV, I integrated Nancy’s speech footage onto the screen and brought everything together in Premiere Pro.

The concept was well received and became an official part of the launch campaign. The finished spot aired on May 18th, 2017.
